Mathoulin Christophe

Orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery and microsurgery, Professor Christophe Mathoulin, MD, FMH, is an internationally recognized specialist in wrist surgery. He is the founder of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS), the first international society dedicated to teaching and research in wrist arthroscopy. He is currently Honorary Lifetime President and Founder of the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society (IWAS). As Founding President of the International Wrist Centers (IWC) and of the IRCAD-IWC, he is responsible for IRCAD-IWC teaching (wrist arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy, and ultrasound-guided surgery) within the prestigious IRCAD centers in France, Taiwan, Brazil, soon in Rwanda, China, and the United States.

Former intern with a gold medal at the Hôpitaux de Paris, Professor Christophe Mathoulin, MD, FMH, served as head of clinic in the orthopedic surgery department of Professor Thierry Judet at the Tenon Hospital from 1987 to 2002. In 1988, he became a member of the Institut de la Main created by Professor Raoul Tubiana and Professor Alain Gilbert.
He is currently Honorary Lifetime Vice-President of the Institut de la Main. He has developed techniques for minimally invasive surgery, wrist arthroscopy, and microsurgical vascular transfers. Professor Mathoulin has been chairman in more than 200 national and international specialty meetings. He is recognized as one of the prominent leaders in the field through his clinical experience, research, lectures, and publications in wrist surgery with over 1,000 lectures and live surgeries, and more than 300 peer-reviewed publications.
